Fairmont Park embraces Japanese culture
This year marks the 98th anniversary of Fairmont Park Horticulture Center’s Sakura cherry trees being planted. The annual festival is a weekend event, taking place on April 13-14 this year. There are numerous supporting activities to experience, all with a Japanese theme, including sushi making and origami classes. Fairmont Park is just to the north west of Philadelphia, and takes around two hours from NYC.
Delaware Park is the perfect spot for late blooms
There is no exact science to predicting when cherry blossoms will come into bloom. However, as a general rule, the further north you go, the later the blooms. Delaware Park in Buffalo has blossoms that typically bloom three to four weeks later that the ones in Washington DC. This year’s festival is over the last weekend in April and will feature drum parades and Japan-themed exhibitions at the Buffalo History museum.
