Governor Kathy Hochul joined a group of dignitaries for the opening ceremony on January 27, at which a beaming Rick Cotton, the New York Port Authority’s Executive Director, proudly told onlookers that the $4 billion terminal has taken the airport “from worst to first.”
Before the new terminal was built, it was something of a shock going from the luxurious surroundings of our pristine limousines to the leaking roofs and poorly illuminated corridors that characterized LaGuardia’s old central terminal. Now, at last, the final vestiges of the bad old days have disappeared for good.
Construction began on the new Terminal B back in 2016, and it has gradually been opening up to the public part by part since 2018. The final piece of the puzzle to fall into place was the elevated walkway connecting Terminal B with the American Airlines gates. There are still some finishing touches to be completed including expansion of the Admirals Club Lounge. When finished, it will have space to accommodate 350 passengers. It will be another state-of-the-art facility and will handle all Delta Airlines flights.
As well as 30 percent more space for dining and concessions, we hear there will be a fabulous new Delta Lounge featuring a Sky Deck with views across the airfield. Work at Terminal C is almost finished, and Delta Airlines will officially open it in the next few weeks.
